Urinary Tract Infection: Is There Any Vaccine or Remedies?

Urinary Tract Infection is one of the most common infections. It is said that about 50% of women claim to have a UTI at least once in their lifetime. This is an infection that affects a part of the urinary tract. In medical terms, it is called Cystitis when it affects the lower Urinary tract. On the other hand, when it affects the upper urinary tract it is called pyelonephritis.

The most common causes of Urinary Tract Infection are Escherichia Coli. Bacteria or fungi can also be the reason for this infection.

A brief explanation of the main symptoms and effects

The popular symptoms for lower urinary tract infection are burning with urination and frequent urge to urinate. Significant Pain during Urination is also the reason for UTI.  The pain in the public bone and lower back can be there.

People who have upper urinary tract infections may experience fever, vomiting, nausea, flank pain.

Infection limited in the bladder can cause severe pain. As a consequence, it affects and damages the kidney later.  It is a common source of bacteremia in the population. Female Anatomy, diabetes and obesity patients are more at risk to have UTI and the damage level is massive.

Available Vaccines and Remedies

In certain cases, the diagnosis can be difficult and complicated. Normal antibiotics are primarily used as treatment. There is no effective vaccine available until now. Although several vaccines have been investigated previously, they failed at the primary trials.

Recently, On March 1, Duke Researcher of the National Academy of Sciences introduced a new vaccine strategy. The strategy of this new vaccine is to teach the bladder to fight more strongly against the bacteria more which cause Urinary Tract Infection. According to the researcher the bladder-immunized mice effectively fought off infecting E. coli and eliminated all residual bladder bacteria.
