The Foundations

Most of us see primer as the essential base for perfect foundation, but Mario disagrees. It’s unnecessary to put a barrier between the skin and foundation, so instead opt for an emollient moisturiser.

Foundation is every woman's secret weapon. It covers our flaws and gives our skin an even finish. Mario recommends using foundation everywhere, including the eyelids, ears and even the body. However, if you don’t want to spend hours applying foundation, then add some around your ears to help them blend with the rest of your face.

Layer Your Eye Makeup

The best eyeshadow look involves applying a cream shade first. Again, ditch the eye primer and head straight to the color. After applying a cream base, follow it up with a powder. This gives the eyes a more dramatic look.

If you only have one eyeliner, then you will never get those sought after “come to bed” eyes. Mario always uses three different liners including, kohl, liquid and creme. This is to create a dramatic and elegant look.

Covering Dark Circles

It’s probably the one thing every woman struggles with. We spend ages perfecting our makeup, only to notice the dark circles around our eyes won’t disappear. Mario Dedivanovic is known for his technique to cover the dark circles. Here's how to perfect the “sandbagging” technique.

Use a thick layer of concealer under the eyes and apply it in an upside-down triangle shape.

Blend the edges into the foundation.

Cover with a loose face powder and brush away the excess. It’s best to use a sponge for this step.

Ditch the False Lashes

False lashes can have a really fake look, so why not ditch them? With the right technique you can create full, lustrous lashes. Pick a volumising mascara and build up the layers gradually. Brush and separate the lashes in between coats to get an amazing finish.

If you can’t live without your falsies, then use individual lashes and add them only where needed. The final step is to add one more coat of mascara, then leave to dry.

Contour, Highlight, Blush...Oh My

If you’re like us, then contouring and highlighting is on a par with learning another language. It’s almost impossible to master unless you know what you’re doing. Use a bronzer to slim the face, focusing on the chin, neck and cheekbone areas. Use highlighter above the cheekbones, on the nose and to create a cupid's bow. You should apply blush to the apples of the cheeks and blend it out to the temples.

Go Nude

Nude lipsticks look great with dramatic makeup, so ditch the bright reds and go for a sultry style instead. Again, this is a case of layering instead of applying just one shade. You can mix a variety of lipsticks to create your perfect color. You might need to blend between three to ten shades, but it’s worth it when you find what works best for you.

Following these tips will get you closer to having the perfect makeup. Remember, it takes practice so take your time when applying and get ready to battle with your contour palette.
