What is Record Store Day?


Record Store Day is a celebration of the Record shops owned independently all around the world. It organizes the gathering of the owners and the employees of some 1400 independently-owned record stores in the US, along with the thousand others around the globe. The day brings fans, artists, musicians and just about anyone with an affinity for the music records together.


The day also marks several new, country-specific releases made specifically for the celebration of the day. These new records are only distributed among the participating record shops.


When Did it Begin to be Celebrated?


The first Record Store Day was announced back in 2007, with the first celebration of the day organized on April 19, 2008, in the United States. Over the years, Record Store Day spread its wings all around the world with official representatives in Europe, Japan, and Mexico.


Every year, it was initially planned that Record Store Day would be celebrated on one of the Saturdays in April and Black Friday in November.


When is it Happening in 2021?


Under the unprecedented circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, different countries are celebrating Record Store Day differently. In the UK, the 2021 Record Store Day has been announced to be celebrated on June 12 and July 17.
