Insomnia, Hypersomnia and Other Most Common Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorder is when you are having difficulty sleeping and as a result being unable to function properly when awake. This can become suffering when it constantly affects your life and work abilities.
There are several kinds of sleep disorders:
When people have insomnia, they have difficulty falling or staying asleep. The most common symptoms include struggling to fall asleep or waking up during the night and then having trouble going back to sleep. People with this condition also face issues such as fatigue during the day, changes in mood and concentration, etc.
Insomnia can be short-term or long-term depending on the causes. The most common factors influencing this condition are stress related to work or otherwise daily activities, an upsetting event, changes in sleeping habits or condition (e.g. sleeping in a new place) or depression.
Hypersomnia occurs when people have difficulty staying awake during the day. A person who spends a lot of time sleeping may also suffer from hypersomnia. People who have this can fall asleep at any time or in any situation. Not getting enough sleep at night and being overweight may sometimes cause this issue. Depression has also been known as one of the causes of hypersomnia.
Sleep apnea occurs when a person has difficulty breathing while he/she is asleep. If this goes untreated, then people with this condition may stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep. There are two major types of sleep apnea.
Restless Legs Syndrome
This is a sleep disorder that often causes an uncontrollable desire to move the legs while sleeping. It usually occurs in the evening, making it harder to fall or stay asleep and mostly happens due to sitting or lying down for prolonged periods.
